# Import leads

> Bring prospects into Guhan from the Prospects page with people search, a buying signal or a CSV, or add one person by hand. Includes the Ongoing and One-time schedule.

**Import leads is how prospects get into Guhan.** Use it to find new people or to add ones you already know. Everyone is added to a List, where you can review them and point a Campaign at them.

## Where to find it

Open **Prospects** in the sidebar. On the **People** tab, the top right has two buttons:

* **Import leads**: find people with a search or a signal, or upload a CSV.
* **Create lead**: add one person by hand. See [Add one person](#add-manually).

## Start with Import leads

Click **Import leads**. Pick where the leads come from:

| Option | Use it when |
| - | - |
| **From People Search** | You can describe who fits: title, industry, location, size. |
| **From Signals** | You want people only when something happens (funding, hiring, a post, a new executive). |
| **Upload CSV** | You already have a list of people. |

Each option opens a two-step form. Step 1 sets up the source (who fits, the signal, or the file). Step 2 is the destination: which List, its schedule, and the enrichment options.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Set up the source">
    Fill in who fits, configure the signal, or upload and map your CSV.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the List">
    Pick an existing List or choose **Create new list**. Lists that already have a search or signal source are greyed out ("already has a source"), so a List stays tied to one search or signal. Lists that only hold CSV uploads or hand-added people can still be picked.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the schedule and enrichment">
    Choose [Ongoing or One-time](#ongoing-or-one-time) and review the enrichment options. Then click **Import leads**.

    If an active Campaign uses the List you picked, the dialog tells you: new prospects are enrolled in that Campaign automatically.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## People search

Describe your ideal customer under **Who fits**. Each rule you add is a must-match: a prospect has to satisfy every rule you set to be added to the List.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Job titles">
    Type each title and press Enter. Use **Suggest variants** to see alternative wordings (for example "VP of Sales" and "Vice President Sales"). Variants are only added when you pick them. "Sales Director" and "Director of Sales" are different strings, so list the forms you want.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Seniority">
    Individual Contributor, Manager, Director, VP or C-level.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Location">
    Where the person is based. Cities, states, countries and regions are all accepted, and Guhan matches at the level you pick. A city does not widen to its whole country.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Industry">
    Choose from LinkedIn's industry list. "SaaS" is not one of them; use "Software Development" and narrow with other rules.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Company HQ and headcount">
    Company HQ country is stricter than person location: the company has to be headquartered there. Headcount takes a minimum and a maximum; leave one blank for no limit.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

<Tip>
  Every rule you fill in is required. If a List is coming back empty or full of the wrong people, loosen or tighten the rules. See [Reviewing prospects](/audience/lists/review-prospects).
</Tip>

## Buying signals

Pick **From Signals**, choose one signal, and configure it. A source runs one signal. Some signals find people directly (a post author or commenter); others find companies first and then look for people at them using your **Who fits** rules.

## CSV upload

Upload a CSV from **Import leads → Upload CSV**. Your column names do not need to match anything: Guhan guesses the mapping, shows a three-row preview, and lets you change any column.

Each row needs:

* **Last name** (required)
* At least one of **email**, **phone** (with country code, for example `+14155550123`) or **LinkedIn profile URL**

Optional columns: first name, job title, department, seniority, company name, company domain, company LinkedIn URL, industry and location.

<Note>
  Profile enrichment works from the prospect's LinkedIn URL. Rows without one are still imported, but they cannot be enriched from LinkedIn. Add the column if you can.
</Note>

After upload, the enrichment options in step 2 decide what Guhan fills in (profile, company, research brief, and so on). Turn every option off if you want no enrichment. Each option has a credit cost; see [Enrichment](/audience/enrichment).

CSV rows do not use credits for finding prospects, but they do count toward your [active-prospect limit](/audience/lists#limits-on-a-list). If an upload would go over, the rows that fit are imported and the rest are skipped with a message.

## Add manually

On the **Prospects** page, click **Create lead**. You enter the person's name, at least one of email, phone or LinkedIn URL, their role and their company. You can also choose a List; if you leave it empty the person is saved to your workspace without being in a List. The same active-prospect limit applies.

Use it for warm leads, referrals, or adding yourself to test a Campaign before launch.

## Shortcuts inside a List

You don't have to leave a List to add to it. Open the List from **Lists** in the sidebar:

* **Import** in the header offers **Import CSV** and **Add manually**, with the List already chosen for you.
* On a List that has no search or signal yet, the **Sources** tab shows **Add source**. It opens the same Import leads dialog, already pointed at that List.

These are shortcuts to the same forms. The Prospects page is the one place that offers everything, and it is the only place to start a search or signal that creates a new List.

## Ongoing or one-time

For people search and signals, step 2 asks how the source should run.

| | Ongoing | One-time |
| - | - | - |
| What it does | Keeps looking and adds new matches as they appear | Runs once, then stops |
| What you set | Daily, weekly and monthly limits (daily in steps of 25, from 25 to 1,000; weekly and monthly can be left at no cap) | **How many to import** (1 to 5,000) |
| For post-based signals | Catches new posts as they are published | Looks back over a time window you pick, with a cap on posts |

The wording stays the same for every signal. Only the options under it change:

* **Post-based signals** (competitor posts, topics) in One-time mode let you choose a time window and a maximum number of posts. Competitor posts offer 24 hours up to 1 year; topic posts offer past day, week or month.
* **Engaged with specific posts** follows its own schedule: each post you add is checked twice a day for its first week, once a day for the next two weeks, then goes dormant. You can renew a dormant post.

You can switch a source between Ongoing and One-time later from **Edit** on the List page.

<Warning>
  Limits cap how many people are added, not what each one costs. You are charged for every profile a run finds, including ones your filters later reject. See [How prospects get added](/audience/lists/how-prospects-get-added#what-you-pay-for).
</Warning>
